đ¨đ¨ Hot off the presses: I just released my new short film, Witchfish!
But wait, there’s more!
I also posted a full breakdown of how we made this iPhone short film.
IMO these making-of videos are the most difficult to create, but most valuable content I post, so definitely give it a watch! đ
And if you want to support my films, educational YouTube videos, and this newsletter (for FREE) throw them both a thumbs up and comment đ It would mean a lot to me.
Even better, share them with your filmmaking friends đ
PS –Â More breakdown videos coming soon for this project (covering audio & post-production).

Lol. Hear me out.
Iâd been eagerly anticipating this Francis Ford Coppola swan song since it was first announced, even though I had a strong suspicion it would suck (check out Coppolaâs more recent films to learn why).
And indeed⌠it sucks. It felt like a pretentious modernization of Shakespeare with an autobiographical bent. Lots of non-sequiturs and five-dollar words that ultimately add up to nothing.
But also, it was hilarious. Sometimes intentionally, and other times I honestly couldnât tell. But my girlfriend and I have been laughing about it for days, and I donât think itâs a movie Iâll ever forget.
One thing is for sure, Coppola made his extremely talented cast and crewâs jobs very difficult. There is some great technical work on display (sound design, music, sets, etc), and lots of stylistic experimentation (with mixed results).
Overall, itâs a fun trainwreck to watch in theaters, with glimmers of inspiration here and there.
But more importantly, it got me thinking about the benefits of constraints for filmmaking. In his golden era, Coppola didnât have carte blanche, or a wine empire he could use to finance any idea he came up with.
Back then, he had to ultimately âmake doâ and find compromises like the rest of us. In my opinion, thatâs what this film lacked: Conditions and collaborators who would challenge him at every step of the way.
In a way, we should all be grateful for our own âobstaclesâ as they often lead us to the strongest path ahead.

đş TV: The Penguin (MAX)
Colin Farrell is one of our greatest acting talents. Iâve only seen the pilot episode, but man, he bodies it.
Now, I would have preferred if this was just an original standalone character/world instead of a Batman show. Canât we have original antihero character studies like back in the day?
It seems like thatâs basically what weâre getting here, just using a supervillainâs name to get people in the door. I’ll take it.
