I think there is a lot to be said about reframing the shot at higher resolutions, not giving you the definitive look you were going for.

I was mainly thinking about the posterity of shooting digital movies. Selecting a resolution means you're stuck at that resolution, as opposed to film negatives, where it's possible to rescan the film at a higher resolution.

We will see where the future ends up with digital film though.

I love that he got whoever was filming to switch lenses in the middle of the interview! This is such a cool observation. I'm a cartoonist (and teacher of making comics), and the past few years I've noticed that the "lens" that artists use in comics tends to be very flat and unnatural, especially lately with the overuse of reference software. A LOT of artists are essentially using a telephoto lens on their shots (zooming in to their CG reference images, then tracing), and almost all of the establishing scenes now feature isometric from-above shots with perfect gridded guidelines that don't taper off, or taper off into perfectly parallel tiles. I feel like it creates a sort of distance between the viewer and the subject.

For us, it's a LOT more work to create perspective with a wide-angle lens feel, but I think it's worth it (I just fake it and hope the emotion overrides the inaccuracies!). Thanks for these articles and your YT videos, they're some of the best & most concise advice I've seen on storytelling. :)
